The Beauty of XML Tagging and Content Management
Bobbi will show examples of how strategic tagging in an XML editor (used in a Content Management System) significantly streamlined her work and reduced both production chaos and translation costs. She will explain the complexity of the project and the numerous variables that could affect the content of manuals and potentially risk schedule. Bobbi will demonstrate how tagging provided a cost-effective and sanity-preserving solution that anticipated all outcomes and supported customized output from one master source. Without this tagging system, she wouldn’t have been able to finalize her manuals in time for translation and then product launch.

Podcasting: From Concept to Reality
More Americans know what podcasting is than who the vice president is, and 12 million Americans listened to their first podcast last year. Of people who are podcast listeners, 80% listen to all or most of each episode, and listen to an average of 7 episodes each week. Given that sort of engagement, it’s no wonder that businesses are starting to seriously explore podcasting as a new method to reach customers and other businesses. Whether you engage in content marketing, capture general knowledge via audio, or are personally interested in podcasting, this session is for you.

As technical communicators, our work is truly never done. Products change. Publications need updates. Drafts become version 1, version 1 becomes version 2, then version 3, and so on. Whether publications are deliverables to clients or our own creative works, it’s important to know why and when to revisit them and how to make them better. Judy will demonstrate how she applied the concept of continuous improvement when updating first editions of her three independently published books into second editions.
